Want to keep your Dutch up when school’s out for summer?

Join our Kids’ Summer Club!

Once again this summer, the Dutch4Families programme at Talencentrum Holland will have an exciting add-on for expat kids. During school recess we organize a Dutch Summer Club where your kids can spend fun days filled with activities – and keep speaking and learning Dutch in the process!

The programme runs on a daily basis from 10:00 – 13:00. You can enrol your kids for an entire week or for several days throughout one or more weeks.

We work with small groups of no more than 8 children, and some days are booked full already, so don’t wait too long! The group will be acompanied by two teachers/supervisors.

Activities will include quest expeditions, outdoor activities and Dutch games in the Vondelpark. Healthy drinks and snacks will be included.

Our professional lady teachers have a very friendly, child-oriented approach and activities will be based on the principle of Playful Language Learning.

Learning a language is more than just learning some grammar and a bunch of words.

Here’s some tricks that we think can help you learn faster, better, and with more fun in the process:

  1. Do NOT focus too much on trying to speak correctly and fluently. Instead, just focus on getting your message across. Don’t be shy! Remember: no one but you expects you to be flawless.
  2. Listen carefully. Try to figure out how native speakers do it. Active listening is at least as important as speaking when learning a language.
  3. Try to memorize some standard phrasing used by everyone. This makes it much easier to construct sentences and keep up a conversation. Zeker weten!
  4. Speak to yourself. Be like that granny who socializes when alone in a room. And copy other people, too. It will make you get used to hearing yourself speak your new language, it will make you confident – and it will swiftly reduce the amount or errors you make.
  5. Believe in yourself! Language learning is not a difficult challenge, it is a gift. As long as you keep practicing, and aren’t shy to put your new knowledge to use, you will keep learning in a playful and stress-free manner!

Do you want some help and guidance in getting that language thing going for you?

Enrol for one of our stress-free, stimulating and entertaining group courses!

A large international law firm based in the center of Amsterdam recently asked us to set up a programme to help their international staff of legal advisors and lawyers learn Dutch. We drew a tailor-made programme that would get their Dutch going at a fast pace, not only in a professional setting, but also on the social level.

It all worked out very well and next week we’ll be starting the third Dutch group course there!

Bright little Laia is like a ray of sunlight to us. Only 5 years old, Laia is a true citizen of the world: she speaks no less than 5 different languages!

We have been teaching Laia for several months now. During the last class before summer recess, we went out for an ice cream together, as our focus was still on speaking skills then. But as we picked up classes after summer again, much to my surprise it turned out that Laia had taught herself how to read – in just one summer holiday! This totally shifted the focus of our classes. It almost seemed as if Laia took me by the hand and showed me the many things that she is capable of doing, such as reading me a Dutch children’s book.
Laia is a very special little angel. We have the best of times during our language classes and have become true friends. Laia loves to learn and before we’ll know it, she will be totally fluent in Dutch!
